A Little Studying Advice

Its been weeks after i got my end of year results and one week after i got my streaming results. To tell you the truth, i did not regret studying hard for my exams.

I screwed my results up in my mid year exams, i spent most of my time playing computer games and just studied for the sake of studying and not feeling guilty that i did not study. My results dropped tremendously because of that. My L1R5 ( Language one + relevant 5 subjects ) Dropped from 13 to 20. That's right, 7 points. If it was my O levels, you will not know how much 7 points can make a difference. I felt guilty after i got my results.

I decided to work very hard from term 3 onwards, and i did. I revised everything that the teacher taught everyday and did my homework regularly. My CA2 results were pleasing with 5 A1s. In a blink of an eye, the exams are just round the corner. That was fast alright! Keeping the promise to myself, i worked very hard and was serious in doing well. The process was tiring but it was worth it.

My L1R5 result was a 15, did not recover my full 7 points, but at least a 5.

I want to give some advice to students out there ( this is based on the Singapore's education system ). Take studies seriously, because in the end, the one who will benefit from all that hard work is not your parents, not your teachers but really, YOURSELF. If you do well for your O or N level, there will be so many opportunity for you and you can choose to do what you like. If you have a passion for design or writing for example, then work towards getting a course related to it. In the end, it all boils down to working hard. The future is in your hands, is just a matter of whether you want the best for yourself or not.

When You Are Able To Help, HELP.

To anyone who is reading this, i would say that you are reading this from your computer, be it at home, in a cafe or somewhere else. Count yourself lucky, you have a computer, a house to live in, but someone out there is trying to survive.

What i want to talk about today is to help others. Whenever you can donate a cent, just donate. You may not know how much your cent can mean to someone who is struggling on the streets. It can bring hope to them, or made them realise there are still kind people out there.

Imagine if you need some help, may not be struggling on the streets, just in need of some help. For example, if nobody around you is willing to help you, will you lose hope gradually? YES. But what if one day someone come to you and help you? It will definitely bring you back some hope. I think the reason why people gave up is because there seems to be no hope, so whenever you can give someone hope, just give it, it doesn't hurt.

My Secondary 2 Streaming results.

I got my results just yesterday and i'm actually pretty happy with it. First of all, i managed to get into my Pure Biology and Chemistry science class. It was surprising as i only got a B for my end-of-year science grade. But i will have to work very hard for the next two years as pure science is very in-depth :( Secondly, i got what i wanted, additional mathematics. I finally got an A for my maths this year, my maths has been getting a B consistently last year. I do not want to do Principle Of Accounts, so i choose Additional Maths instead :)

So, here's my subject combination for next year: Pure Bio, Chem, Social studies+History, Additional mathematics, Elementary mathematics and my languages, English and Chinese

Just Be Yourself

Have you ever wanted to be someone else? You envy that person so much because he/she have certain things that you don't. For me, i just want to be myself.

All of us are different in many ways, looks, hair types, actions, taste of music, etc. and i think that's what makes this world so unique. We cannot have everyone with the same type of personalities, strength, etc. Its like living in a world of clones, in a world where everyone is the same.

I always believe that everyone is special in their own ways, everyone has their own inner strength. I think the reason why people want to be someone else is because they only look at their flaws, they failed to see the beautiful things hidden within themselves. Everyone has flaws, even the person whom you think is perfect have them. There are certain things in life in which you cannot change, you just got to learn to accept it. It is okay if others don't accept your flaws, you just need to accept yourself.

Love yourself and be the best that you can be :)

Learning journey to Spore Discovery Center

I went to the Discovery Center this afternoon, it was a lot of fun :) I learnt a lot about design and how it improve our way of life.  Designs is everywhere and we can get inspirations to design from any situation because in every situation, there is always a need to improve things.

As soon as we entered the venue, we had quizzes about different things about design. We then learnt about Design helping Singapore develop to become a more successful city that integrates design with business, urban planning, sustainability and public life to attract more investors and creative people from all over the world.

We also got introduced to the different products invented by different local desginers from the Polytechnics and Universities. We proceeded to do some designing activities so as to allow us to think like designers. The instructor instructed us to pair up with a friend and interview them the questions that are inside the worksheet being distributed. We were then asked to design a toy that your friend will like. I found out that my partner likes plants so i came up with a robot to water his plants more conveniently. The robot will be remote-controlled and is able to float on air by a motor at the bottom ( I am just designing the model of the robot and unfortunately it got crushed :( Won't have a picture on this, sorry )

The last and most interesting exhibit was the Army Museum Of Singapore and found out about how design and new inventions are useful to the military. I learnt about how the old M16 had been replaced by the new SAR21 rifle for more comfort and suitable for combat.

As seen from the pictures, the SAR21 have a scope for more accurate aiming. The new laser sight had been placed to allow soldiers to aim at their enemies at night. The magazine is also made transparent so soldiers can estimate how much bullet they have left. Lastly, as urban warfare is increasing, the SAR21, being smaller than the M16, will be more comfortable for soldiers to mobilise.

Another change is the uniform. The 3rd generation uniform is now pixelised for better camouflage. Researchers actually studied the different vegetations in Singapore and asked designers to come up with a more suitable uniform for better camouflage.

Shown on the left of the picture is the old uniform and the right is the new uniform, which one camouflages better? The answer is obvious.

We watched a show at the end of the exhibition about different units carrying out a mission ( I watched this show with effects there ).
