Peer Pressure

I've been wanting to do a post on peer pressure for a very very long time and finally, here I am making it ( I dunno if this info is necessary :3 )

Anyway, what is peer pressure? Well, in my own definition, peer pressure is, as the name suggests, the pressure to do something that your peers ask you to do.

Some people say that peer pressure is " retarded " and that we should just ditch that sh** and be ourselves, but let's face it, everyone has been affected by peer pressure in one way or another, because it's everywhere, and it's rather unavoidable.

I have noticed, from life experiences, that different group of friends have their own types of peer pressure. Every group has something which the members generally like and don not like to do, their own meeting place, etc. etc.

There are two kinds of peer pressure, the positive and negative peer pressure. That's the easiest way to classify the two, haha.

Like I've said, peer pressure is rather unavoidable. What we can do though, is choose the right people to give us the right types of peer pressure. A.K.A Choose your company and friends wisely.

Choose those friends who will help and benefit you in positive ways, for example, a group that has members who are hardworking and are working towards something and will motivate and inspire you. If that's a little too nerdy, why not a group who likes to work out, play sports and exercise? You will also benefit when you become fitter, healthier and of course, more muscular ^^

Also, choose the friends who are willing to accept you for who you are, and that you don't have to be exactly like them to appear cool.

Next, the negative peer pressure. This type of peer pressure is somewhat the hardest to avoid and get away from. I don't know why, but bad things are always harder to avoid, like fast food for example. Yum Yum x)

How do you deal with peer pressure whereby you're asked to do drugs, smoke, or do bad and illegal things? Well, let me teach you one trick, and that's to say NO.

If someone tells you to have sex or drink underage, or to steal things from the local store, why would you want to do it?

It's like someone offering you a ticket to jail, just take it and you can have instant excess to the small room that's enclosed behind a bunch of metal bars.

If your reason for doing it is to appear " cool " in front of your friends, then you are wrong. You are only harming yourself. Many people can advice you not to do it, but ultimately the choice is yours. But remember, actions have consequences.

Most of the time though, the group which has negative peer pressure is the one that appears the coolest, but why do we need to be in that sort of group to appear cool?

There are many groups with positive peer pressure that are cool too, and their coolness is not defined by stealing or doing drugs, but by doing what's right and beneficial to the members and have positive outcomes in the end.

Peer pressure is like a sea. You either choose the one that is safe and brings your boat towards your destination or the one that may appear to be fun, having thunderstorm and stuff, but in the end, the outcome may not be that desirable.

Let's wrap up this post by a video by Andysunstory. Andy Sun is an Australian Vlogger and he talks about pretty cool stuff on Youtube, so you may want to check him out if you want. I'm not pressuring you by the way ^^
