Dragon Boating

I went to Marina Reservoir for Dragon Boating two days ago. It was awesome.

It's part of our school's SEP ( Sports Education Programme ) that we have every year and each level participates in different sports at different venues. For Secondary 1, they have inline skating. For Secondary 2 and 4T1, they have Bowling and for us, Sec 3s, we have Dragon boating.

Dragon boating was new to me and so I had no idea how It was going to be like. When I was about to get on the boat, there were a lot of questions running through my mind. How is this going to be like? Am I going to enjoy it? How deep is the water? Will I drown? ( Yea.. I actually thought of that )

Despite the uncertainties, I was also excited to try this " new " thing.

We started learning how to row the boat and did some coordination training at first. I have never rowed a boat before in my entire life before so It felt good when I moved the boat for the first time.

We then do more practices and had races with other boats. It was fun, seeing everyone putting in the effort into moving the boat and wanting to beat the opposing boat. It was a real team spirit. Although our arms were aching, we perservered and kept on rowing.

Guess what? We got to attack other boats as well. I don't know if they really do that in official dragon boating but... we attacked.

How did we attack? Obviously not by banging onto each other and try to put others' lifes in danger, but by splashing water. ( I know, this sounds lame. Blame the instructors not us :P )

We were all wet from head to toe after attacking several times. But again, It was just for fun, nobody got killed, so.. yea.

One of the most enjoyable thing is when we attacked the teachers' boat. Teachers gave us so much homework, scolded us, nagged at us, and that, was our revenge. WUHAHAH xD Our class immediately aimed at our form teacher when we saw her.

So generally, everyone had fun from this activity :) The only unenjoyable part was when they kept us for an hour after we reached back to school. They just gave us a reflection sheet to do and expect us to wait for an hour. It was a waste of time, seriously. Even my form teacher didn't know why we need to be kept in school. So we just slacked in our class, doing our own things, sleeping... And once the bell rings, we called it a day.

Unsung heroes

Doctors are some of the most highly respectable and recognised people in society. Reason being that their profession contributes a lot to society and for them to become who they are now, is not easy. They have to go through five years of Medical school and intense medical training in order to become a doctor.

So...When you hear that someone is a Doctor, you immediately look up to the person, don't you? I do.

Once, I went to see a doctor for my scoliosis condition. As the doctor was explaining that my condition was normal and that was a part of growing up, etc., I immediately look up and admire the doctor's knowledge on the medical condition that I have. It's like, Wow! This guy's very knowledgeable and hold a high status in society.

But we often take the rest of the people in the medical field for granted, don't you agree?

For example, Nurses, Pharmacists, Paramedics, are often taken for granted and people often take them as just helpers of doctors.

But recently I was thinking about how the medical field will turn out to be like if every one are doctors and NONE are nurses, Pharmacists, etc.

They may not earn as much as doctors and may not hold a status as high as doctors do, but you got to admit, they contribute to the medical field as well.
The job of a nurse for example, Is to take care of the patients, while the job of a Paramedic, is to provide medical support in times of emergency.

I like to call these other people in the medical profession, the " Unsung Heroes ".

Parents invading into children's privacy ( Handphones )

I sometimes get annoyed when my friends' parents invade their privacy. Not by looking through their Facebook profiles ( there's really nothing wrong with this, parents just wants to get to know their children better ), but by looking through their phones without seeking the their permission.

I think that parents should learn to respect their children's privacy and personal space. You may think, Oh.. They're the parents, they got the rights!

I know that parents have a higher authority as they raised you up, pay for your school fees, bills, internet....

YES I AGREE but sometimes, some parents tend to use their authority as " parents " to sort of enslave their children. They may not mean it, but their children can feel it.

It's like, hey! We're the parents, we have the right to do everything, you don't. OR... We're the parents, so we are always right, you have no rights to correct us, which is obviously not true as everyone has flaws....
I think that these parents should understand their children's feelings when they say these things. Fortunately, I've been blessed with parents who aren't like that :)

okaay... Back to the point... Whew I am getting off track here... o_o

I think that looking through children's handphones is not really very nice. Teenagers especially, feel the need to have personal space and privacy. Looking through his/her phones, checking every single detail, be it their conversations with their friends, photos they took with their friends, who they last called, Whatsapped, SMSed, will make child feel that his/her privacy is not being respected.

Handphones are very personal things. It is not something that is publicised like an advertisement or this blog of mine. I don't mind if people read my blog, it's meant to be read. But handphone is a totally different story.

Imagine if It's the other way around, your boss or parents or someone who have a higher authority are looking through your handphones without your permission. How would u feel?

This is not a hate post or anything. I'm just writing down my thoughts on this. Anyway, that's what a blog is for, to write down your opinions and thoughts and to share them with the world.

After exam outing :D

I do not normally blog about casual outings that I have, just official ones/ special events. So this is one of those rare occasions when I actually blog about this. This is kinda a random post...

So anyway, I had an after-exam outing with some of friends last Saturday. A friend called me last Friday and asked me to join him and 2 of our friends to the arcade the following day. We also met with one of our seniors who have graduated like a year ago which was a good opportunity for us to catch up.. Everyone were so excited as exams were finally over after a few stressful weeks. ( except my senior, his exams are starting XD )

We went to Junction8 Virtualand to play arcade since the guy who asked me out lived in that area. Each of us brought lots of money and there was even a friend of mine who actually brought $90, HOLY CRAP! ( She's a rich lady.. :3 )

The first game I played was Rambo 2 and unfortunately, I played it with a friend who is suckist at shooting games while the others were off playing other games. I'm not hating him or anything since he rarely plays shooting games but he was really terrible at it. He didn't even know how to aim properly,  it was like, he kept on aiming downwards even though I had cleared the enemies at the bottom. It's like... wtf? Again, not hating or anything. I was just giving him a chance to play.

We played a few more games and suddenly, oops. Our cards had ran out of money. That was fast!

So we topped up our cards and played a few more.

After long hours of fun, our stomachs were growling. We went to the foodcourt near the arcade but little/no seats were available. So we headed down and ate at Long John's silvers. I grabbed my usual Fish and Chips.

Two of our friends went home while I went to a friend's house with another friend. We chilled there for like an hour then I went home afterwards.

The outing was fun, especially after stressful exam days and we just needed to reward ourselves after the exams :)

Exams are over :D

Exams are finally over and I'm glad that the pressure of the papers approaching day by day is finally gone! :D It was stressful, really.

So the things on my mind right now are the June holidays and my results!

I'm really excited to find out the grades I got and how I perform for this mid year exams.

To be honest, I'm not really confident of some of my subjects like Biology. Even though I enjoy learning Biology but I have to admit, the paper was pretty tough. Really, the whole class felt the same way.

I'm also not confident about today's Chinese oral. Basically because I was nervous today for some reason. As I read the passage and discuss the picture, I was pretty nervous that I would screw up and so, I kinda regret being all nervous for no apparent reason.

But I think that there's no point dwelling about this so I will just wait till my results are out and see how I perform :)

What is life all about? ( To me )

Many different people have different views on what life is about.
Some people think that life is about finding your soul mate.
Some think that life is about getting a good job and being able to support your future family.
Some think that life is about devoting themselves into doing something like a sport, music or a religion.

These are just some views of people's perspective on life. I am not against any of these, I think that these views are rather sensible and give us a purpose and meaning in life. I think that It is important for people to have their own views of life. I always believe that everybody has a mission for being born on this planet and knowing what life is about for you is important as you know what you have to accomplish on this planet.

So what is life to me?
Basically, life to me is about finding myself.
I have to find out what Is the purpose of me being born on this planet and what are the paths that are suitable for myself.
Which leads me to my second point.....

Many people think that education and studying is about getting a good certificate, getting a good job, getting a good this, getting a good that. Well since my primary goal is to " find myself ", education to me is about finding my passion and which career I am suited for and so, I study so that I will be able to score good grades to pursue whatever I want to pursue.

It doesn't matter If the course that is of my passion is not labelled as the " best " in society. What really matters is that it suits me and that's what I want. I really don't understand people who just blindly follow the system most of the time...

I am also keen to learn about my own characteristics and the type of person I am. Find out my strengths as well as weaknesses...

Perks of being single

For those of you who don't know me well, I'm single and I feel that there's nothing wrong with being single. In fact, being single is awesome!

So I was thinking the other day, what are some of the advantages/perks of being single? I think I finally found the answers to this question.

Firstly, being single can help you save $$$money$$$.

Being single means that you don't have to spend a lot of money on the valentines day gifts, your anniversary gifts, your romantic outings with each other and probably a thousand other things.

Chances are, If you're a student and your allowance is not that much ( like me ), you may agree on this point.

Secondly, being single can save you from emotional heartbreaks.

I have lots of friends who are in relationships and probably 90% of them have gone through emotional heartbreaks. Be it whether the partner cheats on them, choose to go back to their ex, don't love them anymore, blah blah blah.....

Being single means that you won't have to go through all those pain. I have a friend who actually wanted to commit suicide and get depressed because of love in the past. Now that's a serious case. I'm not exaggerating.

Thirdly, being single means that you won't have to worry when socialising with members of the opposite sex.

Being single means that when I'm talking or hanging out with my female friends, I won't have to worry about a girl getting jealous and wanting to slice my throat the next time I see her.

I'm not saying that It's wrong to be jealous. It is okay to be jealous sometimes. It shows that you care for your significant other, but if the jealousy turn into clinginess, you may want to stop.

For me, clinginess is a major turn off. Seriously, If my partner don't trust my love for her? How am i suppose to trust her?

I need to socialise, be it with guys or girls and I need to constantly increase the amount of friends I have.

A letter to 10 year old me ( I'm currenly 15 )

Dear 10 year old me,

Please learn how to take punishments. If you have done something wrong and our parents give you punishments or scold you, do not rebel. You have to learn that there is a consequence to every action. Just take the punishment and even if you have not done anything wrong, explain to them calmly. Using aggression and anger is not going to solve anything.

Be open to listen to advices from our parents because you are not right about everything. Even if our parents are wrong, again, do not use aggression and anger to explain. It will not do anything good. Kicking and punching your pillow and bed will only anger our parents more.

Please consider the feelings of others before saying something. I know that you are blunt and honest by nature but as you grow up, you got to understand that some things you say or do will hurt others and you got to learn to be a bit more sensitive. You remember the biscuits that you threw away in front of your teacher in Primary 3? Well that was not very nice....

I know that you enjoy that Pet Society game on Facebook a lot. Playing with your pet, decorating his house, etc. Well, guess what? You are going to stop playing that game in 2-3 years time. Shocking truth? Yes.

I know that Mathematics seems difficult to you and sometimes you can hardly understand anything from that subject but I can tell you right now, Maths is not that difficult. Put in a bit more effort. Listen more attentively in class and not just cry like a bitch to our mum for her to explain the problem sums to you.

Find out studying methods from your teachers and friends because seriously, your studying method sucks.

Lastly, don't be in a hurry to grow up, growing up sucks.

 Cheers,

15 year old you.

Procrastination

Everyone procrastinates. Be it working adults or students.

So what is Procrastination?

Procrastination is defined by the dictionary as putting off from doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness or to postpone and delay something needlessly.

Personally, I feel that there's nothing wrong with procrastinating. We are all human beings, we all feel lazy at times and sometimes we just don't feel like doing anything.

\

Many people feel that procrastinating is bad and a waste of time. Time should be spent on doing other productive things.

But today, I will be telling you that procrastinating is actually good for you.

1) Procrastination helps you to relax.

After a long and stressful day at school or work, a bit of procrastination before starting your " homework " will be a good way to relax.

Turn on the TV and watch your favourite drama series.... Go to Facebook..... Go to Twitter..... Play your computer games....Read a book....Do anything that you enjoy.

Believe it or not, I am actually procrastinating right now :P

Of course, don't forget about your work because of procrastination. Just procrastinate for about an hour or two and start on your work right after.

2) Procrastination improves time management

Instead of wasting " precious " time, procrastination can actually improves time management.

For example, you came home from school and because you are so tired, you decided to procrastinate and watch some TV for a little while before starting on your homework. This can actually help you to balance work and play by deciding on the amount of time you are going to spend on relaxation and work.

3) Procrastination improves creativity

Not many may believe this, but it's true. It has happened to me before.

I once had an English essay assignment. I came back home from school, sat down on my desk and started to write my essay. However, my mind was blank and I suddenly had no idea on what to write. So I decided to go and " slack " for a while in the living room with my phone, laptop and TV. As I was procrastinating, an idea suddenly came to my mind and once I got it, I went back to my room and get started on my essay.

I realised that I do a better work when my mind is relaxed and when I'm not under pressure.

I did a research on this and found that during a seemingly quiet period, the mind is actually working very hard. New connections are being made. Old ideas and beliefs begin to mingle with new information that has been learned. So that pretty much explains it all.

So in conclusion, procrastinating is not a bad thing. The mind needs to be in a quiet and relaxed state for a while. Life's not all about work, work, work :) So......

Procrastination For The Win!

Just remember to do your work, unless you want to fail your subjects, or get sacked by your boss ^^

BTW, this is a video on Procrastinating by andysunstory :) Enjoy!

My frustrations with the Chinese Language

I think one of my frustrations in the Chinese Language is translating English words to Chinese words.

I live in Singapore and because English is the national language of the country, everything that is official is written and spoken in English. So every single subject that I study in school is written in English, except our mother tongue language, either Malay, Tamil or CHINESE.

So I had my Chinese Mid year exam last Friday and I was supposed to write a Chinese composition. They gave us a few topics and we are supposed to choose one of them for our essay. So I chose the topic on whether Singaporeans are happy with their life.

To be honest, I had lots of ideas on what to write for this topic, but only one problem, my vocabulary. So I started writing and It was good for the first few paragraphs but suddenly, I was stuck at one word, " Economy ".

Holy shit. What is economy in Chinese????

So I thought about it for a few minutes but nothing came to my mind. So I just said, " Screw this. " and move on. If that was changed to a Social Studies paper I would have scored an A man, seriously T.T

Another form of frustration I have is during the Oral exams. So during the Chinese oral exams we are suppose to read a passage, discuss a picture and engaged in a conversation with the examiner on a certain topic.

I have not much problems with the reading part but the problem comes in the second part. Sometimes, the picture is in favour of me and it portrays a place or environment which I know how to discuss in Chinese, but at times, the opposite happens.

For example, the picture shows a balcony..... or outside a School's General office. Do I know those places in Chinese? Nope, so I always end up saying words that are SOMEHOW relevant to that...

So u see the problem there?

In conclusion, I have a huge problem with my vocabulary and I hope that some kind souls out there will share a few tips on how to improve my Chinese in the comment section below. Your effort is very much appreciated :)

Twitter Rants

I use Twitter, a lot. I use it when i'm eating, when i'm studying, when i'm sleeping ( okay, probably not... ), even when i'm writing this blog post... ( yeap, i do have a Twitter tab opened right now. )

I use Twitter more than Facebook because well, Facebook is getting old and there are not much updates and stuff on Facebook as compared to Twitter.

But anyway... Here are some of my Twitter rants:

People who recommend pages

In case you don't know what it means, it will be something like this, " follow @______ to get 100 followers. " OR " follow @_______ , they have some of the most awesome tweets! "

I find this a little bit annoying. If it really is an awesome page, then you don't have to show or announce it do you?

And by the way, I've tried following a page and no, I didn't get a 100 more followers. It's a lie folks, it's a lie.

People who says, " goals, dm me. "

I constantly asked myself, " What's the meaning of dm???? "

I looked it up on the internet and found that " DM " means " direct message ".

So you're asking random people out there to direct message their goals to you? What kind of lame bullshit is that?

Seriously, no one cares.

" Retweet if you are born in 1992,1993,1994..... "

To all of you guys who write this type of tweet, let me ask you, what's your intention of knowing people's age? Are you seeking some hot young girls ( or boys... ), or are you just desperate to get " Retweets " ?

Again, this is another lame bullshit. Every single time I retweet one of those tweets, I feel like I'm an idiot. Seriously.

People who tweet their " following and followers stats "

It'll be something like, " Today's stats: 3 followers and 3 unfollowers. "

Seriously, I only have one thing to say, and that is.....

Jokes aside, don't hate Twitter because of all these bullshit. Just ignore them and have fun with Twitter! I personally do :)

What are some of your Twitter rants? Do share them in the comment box below ^^
