Biology's AEM ( Day 1 )

I had my Biology's Advanced Elective Module ( AEM ) in Singapore Polytechnic today and It was really interesting and fun :)

We are taking a five-day course called " Application science in forensics ". Every morning will be lectures and we will have practical sessions in the afternoon. On Friday, we will have a test and group presentation on the case studies that we are investigating.

I have been waiting very long for this course to come and it finally came. The last time our Bio teacher mentioned about this was like a few weeks back.

I didn't know what to expect for today but I was so looking forward to this. It's forensic science, man! You know, all the cool stuff that they do in C.S.I??

For today, the school bus brought us there but we will need to go to the campus ourselves for the rest of the days ( Such a waste of my Ez Link card money :( ... )

We were taken to the lecture room immediately after we got there. The lecturer is from DACP ( Diploma in Applied Chemistry with Pharmaceutical Science ) and he started to introduce us to the course and what we will do for today and the rest of the days.

We started the lecture about different types of drugs such as Depressant and Stimulant and how it affects our body, where they are from, etc.

At 9.10am, guess what? We were given Mcdonald's breakfast for FREE! :D We will receive this every morning but seriously, I think we'll get sick eating them everyday .__.

At 10.30 am, we were taken around the Poly with two of the students from DACP before having our lunch. I must say, the facilities there, are awesome!

After lunch at around 12.30 pm, we have more lectures before finally going to the lab! :D

When we got to the lab, we were told to wear a lab coat ( my first time wearing, It felt cool ! ) and we were briefed on the safety measures, you know, to make sure no one gets injured, or die...

Today's practical was to test the components in Shark's meat by doing chromatography and electrolysis. ( For my group, the others have different practicals )

We got into groups, the same group that we will be doing our case studies with, we did the practical. The lecturer show us how to do every step and it was a really great hands-on experience.

After 2-3 hours, we finally got our chromatogram :D

We left our sample overnight and will observe it tomorrow morning.

When our practical has finished, we were allowed to go home whenever we want to. So there are no such thing as the school bell or the teachers dismissing us :D

Day 1 was already fun as hell. Can't wait for tomorrow! ^.^
